Mobile advertising is the future, if there was any doubt.

Alex Leslie - 23/01/12

InMobi, the global mobile advertising network, has produced its latest report on the mobile advertising market. InMobi served over 200 billion impressions in the fourth quarter of 2011.

The InMobi Mobile Market 2011 Review shows 251% growth in mobile impressions globally on its network and global smartphone impressions increased by 488%. North America was the company’s fastest growing region and was ahead of the global trend, with 366% overall growth in mobile impressions and a 625% increase in smartphones.

The huge growth of in-app ads accounted for much of this growth. This was combined with broad consumer and business adoption of the tablet platform, with tablet impressions increasing 771% year-on-year, to 11.2 billion. The tablet market is expected to grow rapidly through 2012 with new devices and increased investment and will drive the take up of advertising on the devices.

The InMobi report shows that connected devices, such as smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, eReaders and gaming systems are the future of media in the post-PC era, highlighting that consumer experience continues to drive innovation within the industry.

At the end of 2011, Android was the number one operating system on the InMobi network, with 21% share of impressions; Apple had 17%. In North America, however, Apple’s share increased 23.4% in 2011.
